Greatness, in human terms, manifests as a
powerful temperament that has the capacity to influence others on a grand scale.
The form that this influence takes depends primarily on one’s strength of
character, focus, and willingness to take responsibility. Unless these qualities
are firmly rooted in one’s being, there is a tendency for power to become
distorted and emerge as belligerence, dogmatism, or some other gross form of
egotism. Anyone who observes politics and world affairs knows that just because
a person is in a powerful position does not necessarily mean that she or he is
great. A sense of decorum and self-restraint is essential — although not always
easy to attain, when you are the center of attention.
